False Eyelashes (Care and Dangers)

It used to be nail or hair extensions and a spray tan that we couldn’t live without, but lately, the biggest trend is to add length and volume to the eyelashes. I wear my own naturally long lashes with some of my favorite mascaras. But for those that don’t have long lashes or just want to enhance their own, here are some dangers and things to be aware of.

False eyelashes are back in fashion, even the exaggerated and unusual sorts, but a new craze for semi-permanent eyelash extensions is also emerging. Semi Permanent Eyelash Extensions are synthetic eyelashes glued directly to the natural eyelashes. They last 4 – 8 weeks depending on your real eyelash growth cycle and how well you take care of them. It should be done by a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist, and it is important to look into the quality of the bonding agent used as well as the standards maintained by the salon and the “Lash Artist”. While there advantages to this false lash method over the more popular method where a prefabricated strip of eyelash is applied to the eyelid, there are also more things to beware of. The drastic difference that lash extensions can make in your appearance can almost seem comparable to plastic surgery, only without any surgery. But just because the process isn’t surgical doesn’t mean it’s completely safe. Unfortunately, many people are learning this lesson the hard way.

Another thing to remember is that most face cleansers will dissolve the glue used to attach your extensions. Use the wrong cleanser and you could wash off your extensions completely, or even end up with all of your eyelashes stuck together in one big clump. Trying to remove the lash extensions before they fall off naturally is difficult to do without causing your natural lashes to fall out too.

So, while some people are swearing by eyelash extensions as their new beauty secret, many are wishing they’d just been thankful for the natural lashes they had. If you’ve made up your mind to get eyelash extensions, make sure you have someone with plenty of experience apply them, and find out how to care for those extensions once you have them.

What the Experts Recommend:

Allergy Test
Have an allergy test prior to any treatment involving chemicals. Your sight is precious so it’s always better to be safe and to check it out before having any treatment. If you experience any discomfort or irritation, see an optometrist as soon as possible.

Beware of Moisture
If you want to go swimming or wear mascara with your eyelash extensions, check with the therapist first.

Eyelash Mites
To prevent an infestation of lash mites, special cleaning must be followed.

No Pulling, Picking or Playing With
It is important to leave your eyelash extensions alone as much as possible. While you will need to carefully comb them and clean them, you will otherwise need to abstain from tampering with them in any other way.

Is It Really Worth It?
There are more ways than one to enhance your eyelashes. Try a quality mascara and or wear some descent fake lashes for an occasional boost to your look. Whatever way you choose put your health first.

Value Your Time…

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.I have learned to not waste my precious time, and do what is best for me. Pray and keep pushing.

Benefits and different things to do with Yogurt!

Yogurt’s got power-boosting protein and bone-building calcium. It can also help you lose weight and fend off a cold. Yogurt is not only a healthy snack, it can be used for different things as well. Here are some:

Make a facial mask
You don’t have to go to a spa to give your face a quick assist. To cleanse your skin and tighten the pores, slather some plain yogourt on your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes. For a revitalizing facial mask, mix 1 teaspoon plain yogourt with the juice from 1/4 slice of orange, some of the orange pulp and 1 teaspoon aloe. Leave the mixture on your face for at least five minutes before rinsing it off.

Make moss “paint”
Wouldn’t it be nice to simply paint some moss between the cracks of your stone walkway, on the sides of flowerpots or anywhere else you want it to grow? Well, you can. Just dump a cup of plain active-culture yogourt into your blender along with a handful of common lawn moss and about a cup of water. Blend for about 30 seconds. Use a paintbrush to spread the mixture wherever you want moss to grow—as long as the spot is cool and shady. Mist the moss occasionally until it gets established.

Relieve sunburn
For quick, temporary relief of mild sunburn, apply cold plain yogurt. The yogourt adds much needed moisture while its coolness soothes. Rinse with cool water.

Make finger paint
Ready for some messy rainy-day fun? Mix food colouring with yogourt to make finger paints and let the little ones go wild. You can even turn it into a lesson about primary and secondary colours. For example, have the kids put a few drops of yellow food colouring and a few drops of blue in the yogourt to make green finger paint. Or mix red and blue to produce purple.

Cure animal flatulence
If your pet has been a bit odoriferous lately, the problem may be a lack of the friendly digestive bacteria that prevents gas and diarrhea. The active culture in plain yogourt can help restore the helpful bacteria. Add 2 teaspoons yogourt to the food for cats or small dogs weighing up to 14 lbs (6 kg). Add 1 tablespoon for medium-sized dogs weighing 15-34 lbs (7-15 kg). Add 2 tablespoons for large dogs weighing 35-84 lbs (16-38 kg). Add 3 tablespoons for dogs larger than that.

More good benefits of eating yogurt are:

1.Yogurt can give you flat abs. Eating 18oz a day you can drop a jeans size.

2. Most brands of yogurt contain good-for-you bacteria.

3. Yogurt is loaded with vitamins.

4. A cup of yogurt a day can help you recover faster after a workout.

5. Not all yogurt is equal when it comes to calcium and vitamin D. . “The levels can vary widely from brand to brand, so you really need to check the label.”

6. Yogurt may prevent high blood pressure.

7. A daily serving of yogurt keeps colds away.

8. Yogurt can help your smile. Despite its sugar content, yogurt doesn’t cause cavities.

9. Raw doesn’t mean better. Virtually all the yogurt in your grocery store has been pasteurized — that is, exposed to high temperatures to kill any harmful pathogens.

10. Yogurt is a high-protein food. Yogurt can be an excellent source of protein, but “one variety may contain more than double the protein of another.”

What to Look For in a Yogurt
Forget the fancy promises. To find a healthy yogurt that’s low in calories, fat, and sugar, follow as many of these guidelines as you can.

Per 6-ounce serving:
Calories: 100 to 150 (if you’re snacking, stick to the lower end)
Fat: 3.5 grams or less (low-fat or nonfat)
Saturated fat: 2 grams or less
Protein: at least 8 to 10 grams
Sugar: 20 grams or less
Calcium: at least 20 percent of the daily value
Vitamin D: at least 20 percent of the daily value

What are some of your favorite brands of yogurt? I love yogurt and am enjoying my favorite flavor now, strawberry by Yoplait! Keep healthy and stay positive. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day.

The Best Shoes For Nurses

I love these nursing shoes by Dansko! Taking care of my feet is a must and I have to wear the most comfortable shoes, standing on my feet for hours. These shoes by Dansko are popular in the nursing/ medical profession.

We know a lot of nurses who go to Wal-Mart to look for a cheap pair of white shoes to bring to work. We understand that you might think that regular shoes can do the job of nurse shoes when it comes to standing and walking all day. However, more than 10 hours of working at the hospital can definitely kill your feet at the end of your shift. More than that, working on your feet without the aid of proper nurse shoes can cause a lot of problems in the long run: varicose veins, back problems, heart problems etc.

The Dansko Professional clogs feature an anti-fatigue rocker bottom to give you the stability and support needed for standing all day. Dansko is also known for creating a roomy toe box that allows movement and circulation in your toes.

In terms of foot health, Dansko shoes for nurses proved to be beneficial. They carry the APMA seal of acceptance, which means that they are recognized by the American Podiatric Association to place significant value in the areas of daily foot care and regular professional treatment. If you ask us, the seal can tell you a lot about the Dansko Pro XP, but we do encourage you to check them out for yourself.

Because these shoes are slip-resistant, you can count on them when you are walking fast on a wet concrete or tiled floor. The waterproof construction of these shoes also helps protect your feet against any accidental spills and liquids found in the hospital floor. Due to its slip resistant feature, these shoes are one of the best shoes for chefs and food industry as well.

In terms of arch support, these shoes are nothing short of it. The ample arch support coupled with the soft cushioning gives the stability, comfort and support needed even while you are just standing.

Now when asked about durability, some people raised concerns that their Dansko XP shoes started tearing or cracking up after a month of use. For most of us, this is a deal-breaker since these shoes do cost a lot than others. When we looked into it, we realized that an improperly sized shoe will usually crack after continuous wear because it will be too tight. The Dansko XP Shoes for nurses is meant to be a bit loose at the heels, so your heel will move a little up and down (don’t worry, it won’t cause any blisters).

The easiest way for you to find the right size for your Dansko Pro XP is to go to an actual store that carries these shoes. Some people we know had their foot sized at Nordstrom. It is advised to have your foot size taken at the end of the workday or your shift when your feet are a bit swollen. This way, you will get the most realistic size for your feet. If you haven’t been able to take your foot size, you can actually order a few pairs at Amazon just for size and style comparison. They offer free shipping/returns on most shoes.

The Dansko Pro XP Clogs have a classic look that makes them versatile to wear in various occasions. They are available in many colors and styles so if you want to wear them outside of work, you may. We know a lot of people who do! These shoes are so comfortable for walking or standing that we can’t actually blame them. There are white shoes available for student nurses for their clinicals.

Perhaps, this is the biggest concern when it comes to these nurse shoes. When the benefits in terms of comfort, foot health and protection are concerned, the price of these shoes is just a small price to pay. Come to think of it, these shoes can help solve various foot problems, back pain, uneasiness, swollen muscles and other concerns you may have during your shift. It can help you become more productive at work and feel better at the end of the day. By correcting foot problems now, you can save more money for treatments later. So is it worth the extra dollars? Definitely YES!

Is the Dansko Women’s Pro XP Clog worth the extra dollars spent buying it? The Dansko Pro XP may be more expensive compared to Dansko Professional clogs, but the extra price comes with a handful of benefits, mostly in the areas of comfort and reliability.

Saying What You Mean

I know many of us have been in situations where we had to say some things to someone or ones and be honest and firm, but at the same time we didn’t want to come across as mean or rude. I had to learn this over the years and am still a work in progress…..Say what you mean and mean what you say, but don’t be mean when you say it.

Ask yourself what you would say if you weren’t worried about being right or about reaction. You may be editing your words according to what you think they can handle, and not even realize it.

Edit your words to make them more specific. Be concrete. Give examples. Illustrate your point.

Ask yourself what result you want from speaking up. Be results oriented. Tell them what you want them to do with the information.

Edit your words to target them toward the result you want. Check what you plan to say to make sure your words are the most likely words to get you the results you want.

Edit your words for blame and emotional reaction. Lots of words can be emotional triggers that get them to stop listening. Always and never are examples.

Speak up – say what you mean and meaning what you say without being mean when you say it. Just go ahead and do it.

When you say what you mean, be sure you mean what you say. If you make a strong claim and back down at the first sign of resistance, your words will lose their power and impact.

It’s okay to put your best foot forward – just not a “false front.”Put yourself in your listeners shoes. If someone said what you were going to say to you, would you think they were being mean?
If you have a habit of “faking it” or “making nice,” Being reasonably assertive will feel strange for you.Keep checking back with yourself to make sure you’re not saying what you think they want to hear. Be honest. Keep it 100%.

UGGs

I love UGGs because they are comfortable and keep my feet warm during the cold season. I always look for comfort in every shoe I buy, so this season I will be purchasing my daughters and I some UGGs.

All across the world, UGGs have really become so popular that it would be impossible to go through a whole day without running into several people wearing them. Of course, in summer nobody wears them, but during chilly winter months, they are inevitable footwear. Australian base boots have really taken over the world of the winter footwear, but the UGG brand has branched out into slippers and rain-boots. Also, UGGs are now available for men and young children.

Not only that UGGs are popular among common people, even the well-known celebrities have been noticed and photographed wearing them. Typically, UGGs are the choice of younger women and girls, but it’s not so rare to see an elderly woman wearing them.Even though everybody thought they would be one season wonder, UGGs are increasingly popular and one has to wonder will they ever go out of trend?

Seems like people won’t stop wearing UGGs and that the next winter season 2013/2014 will be reserved for those comfy and warm footwear, rain-boots and slippers.

If the reason of not purchasing them is their high price, it is recommended to check out some UGGs outlet and to find the pair of UGGs of your choice. There are, however, people who hate UGGs since they have appeared on the streets. Well, unfortunately for them, UGGs are obviously here to stay. Maybe the colors and fabrics would change, but the authentic UGGs will walk down the streets next winter.
